<title> Christmas Blues Through The Years</title>
<link>http://www.memphisbluessociety.com/Article99.html</link>
<description> More than any other genre it seems that blues and Christmas are a perfect match. Through the years there have been hundreds of blues songs starting as far back as 1925 with new Christmas blues songs coming out every year. In this article we'll take a look at the history of Christmas blues from the dawn of blues recording to now and discuss some of the genre's most memorable songs. Due to space constraints I'll be omitting songs that simply make reference to Christmas such as Jimmy Rushing's &quot;Good Morning Blues&quot; or Robert Johnson's &quot;Hellhound On My Trail&quot; (&quot; If today was Christmas Eve/ And tomorrow was Christmas Day...&quot;).

<title> Guitarist Corey Osborn dies in 1-car crash</title>
<link>http://www.memphisbluessociety.com/Article98.html</link>
<description>A 23-year-old area musician died this morning after crashing his car while driving on the unfinished portion of Tenn. 385 in east Shelby County.

Corey Scott Osborn of Arlington died at the scene after his Mitsubishi Montero slid off the unfinished road onto the left side medium. His car rolled over numerous times before coming to a rest in the opposite direction he was driving.

Osborn was namesake of his own blues band and a was regular performer on Beale Street and area nightspots.

A Bolton High graduate, he began playing the guitar when he was 11 years old. By age 16, he played regularly on Beale Street and became a frequent performer at B.B. Kings Blues Club.

Osborn was the only person in the vehicle. The accident occurred about 3 miles south of U.S. 64.

TDOT dispatcher Bill Dunn said Osborn was possibly driving at a high rate of speed and evidently disregarded the barricades and continued onto the unfinished portion of the highway.

<title>Poverty and the blues in Memphis </title>
<link>http://www.memphisbluessociety.com/Article97.html</link>
<description>As the turmoil in the financial markets continues, Alan Little visits Tennessee in the southern USA, where many people view the crisis as a clash between Wall Street and Main Street.

Memphis' Beale Street has a strong history of blues music
It is hot in Memphis and the humidity hangs about you like a layer of clothing.

I sit in the shade of a tree in WC Handy Park on Beale Street in the city centre.

<description>Beatles’ Revolver was meant to be recorded at Stax in Memphis

Who knows what effect this would have had on the recording of the legendary Revolver, but it sure as hell is fun speculate. The Beatles were scheduled to record the album -- universally considered a turning point in their career -- at Stax studio in April 1966, but the trip was canceled due to security concerns.

<title>Blues Jam :: Important Notice</title>
<link>http://www.memphisbluessociety.com/Article87.html</link>
<description>Well, the recession we &quot;aren't&quot; in has finally impacted the Thursday night jams&#032;&#064;&#032;Neil's. Neil's management says business on Thursday nights has not been sufficient to pay the jam band, club staff, and pay all other normal club overhead, and wanted to know what the MBS could do to work with them on this problem. MBS officers met and discussed a number of alternatives to deal with this situation, including reducing the number of jams each month, stopping altogether for a while, putting a food/drink minimum on attendees, moving the jam, levying a cover and staying at Neil's.

<title>Hi Records Death</title>
<link>http://www.memphisbluessociety.com/Article86.html</link>
<description>Editors, It has been brought to our attention that some of you did not receive the press release sent earlier regarding the passing of the owner of Hi Records. Please find time to take a look at this notice and include her name in your Passages in your next issue. Adalah Shaw had many friends and associates in the blues and R&amp;B world for her extraordinary fight to retrieve the legendary Hi masters. Without her determination, these works of arts would have been forever lost through the bankruptcy courts. Thanks for your consideration.
